Every anime-and-manga-aholic is always looking for new pictures and fanarts of his/her heroes, and we are no strangers of this habit. We are Dragon-Ball-aholic so we decided to interview one very talented artist, who is very passionate about her work. Red Violett is one of the most famous designers in all Dragon Ball fandom, and today we are delighted to host her!
Ogni cultore di manga é sempre alla ricerca di nuove immagini e fanart dei suoi eroi e noi non siamo estranee a quest’abitudine. Da patite di Dragon Ball, abbiamo deciso di intervistare un’artista di talento, molto appassionata del suo lavoro. Red Violett é una delle disegnatrici più conosciute del fandom e oggi siamo felicissime di ospitarla!
How did you approach Dragon Ball and drawing?
I got in contact with Dragonball when I was 13-15 years old I guess, ( don’t know it correctly since it’s a long time ago now, it could be earlier) and once I’ve saw it for the first time on TV/Manga I felt deeply in love with it. Since that day there was this passion to draw these characters and try out my own versions and stories – mostly about Vegeta since I’m heavily addicted to his character and character development, but also in all the others of course.
Come ti sei avvicinata a Dragon Ball e al disegno?
Sono entrata in contatto con Dragon Ball attorno ai 13-15 anni (non lo so dire con certezza, è passato molto tempo.. potrebbe esser anche prima) e da quando l’ho visto per la prima volta in TV/Manga me sono perdutamente innamorata.
Da quel giorno è iniziato anche l’interesse nel disegnare e creare la mia versione dei personaggi e nuove storie su di essi. Mi sono sempre concentrata principalemente su Vegeta in quanto è il mio personaggio preferito, ma non disdegno di scrivere/disegnare anche su tutti gli altri ovviamente.
You draw a lot of VegeBul: are they your only ship of the heart?
Yes they are but there is also another one I like pretty much because it could also work and it’s KakaVege and BlaKaVege since DBS (VegetaxGoku). It’s also my very first and oldest OTP to be honest, I first discovered it by some Japanese fanartists with their amazing pictures and stories and got totally caught in it.
I tuoi disegni sono spesso a tema VegeBul: sono la tua unica ship del cuore?
La VegeBul (VegetaxBulma) è la mia ship del cuore ma ce n’è un’altra che mi piace e che potrebbe funzionare, secondo me: la KakaVege o la BlaKaVege da quando esiste Dragon Ball Super (VegetaxGoku). Ad essere onesta, quest’ultima è la mia più vecchia OTP (one true paring ovvero la vera coppia) e l’ho scoperta tramite le immagini e le storie di alcuni artisti giapponesi, che mi rapirono completamente.
Are some of your works or comics inspired by stories you have read or written personally?
They are all inspired by my own stories I’ve written over the years, sadly they are only readable in german by now but I play with the thought to finally translate them to english and publish them – but it could take a while.
Alcuni dei tuoi lavori o fumetti sono ispirati a storie che hai letto o scritto personalmente?
Tutti i miei lavori sono ispirati a storie che ho scritto negli anni. Sono leggibili solo in tedesco per il momento, ma ultimamente penso che potrei finalmente tradurle in inglese e pubblicarle anche se potrebbe volerci un pò.
This year you went to the Kamehacon. Can you tell us something about your experience?
Kamehacon was amazing and it felt also pretty special since it was my very first travel to the USA ever in my life. It really was a great journey , it was so amazing to met so many many people that like the same stuff you do and are totally the same level of craziness about it – it felt like a homecoming to a lovely family and I’m still grateful to get that awesome experience and met so many amazing people, friends and fans.
Quest’anno sei stata al Kamehacon (fiera interamente dedicata al mondo Dragon Ball che si svolge in Texas). Puoi raccontarci qualcosa sulla tua esperienza?
Il Kamehacon è stato fantastico e si è rivelato davvero speciale anche perchè è stato il mio primo viaggio negli Stati Uniti. Un viaggio davvero grandioso, è stato incredibile incontrare così tante persone che amano le tue stesse passioni e che hanno lo stesso grado di follia al riguardo. Mi è sembrato come tornare a casa dalla propria adorabile famiglia dopo un lungo viaggio e sono davvero grata di avervi preso parte e di aver avuto la possibilità di incontrare persone straordinarie, amici e fans.
Do you have any suggestions for those who want to start drawing?
Don’t be afraid of starting it and just do it – there is. Itching to lose , you can only win. You can learn so much by drawing and practice every day. Get inspiration and mostly motivation by others and try to push that positive energy to its limits. Drawing is a process that needs time and a lot of practice to grown but the results at the end will be amazing- I’ve never regret starting drawing since I found really a passion in it and it also calms me down after a hard day of work – mostly if I don’t fall into an artist block but even those are helpful and needed for breaks. It’s also important to not push yourself-always think in small steps 🙂
Hai qualche suggerimento per chi vuole iniziare a disegnare?
Non abbiate paura di iniziare e iniziate. Non c’è nulla da perdere, potete solo imparare.
Disegnando e facendo pratica ogni giorno, è possibile imparare tanto.
Potete prendere ispirazione e motivazione dagli altri, cercando di spingere quell’energia positiva al massimo.
Il disegno richiede molto tempo e pratica per crescere, ma i risultati alla fine saranno sorprendenti. Non mi pento di aver iniziato a disegnare, anche perchè ho trovato una vera e propria passione che mi tranquillizza dopo una dura giornata di lavoro – specialmente se non cado in un blocco dell’artista, ma anche quelli sono utili e necessari per le pause. È importante non spingersi sempre al limite: bisogna pensare a piccoli passi 🙂
